The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre

Overview

The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre (WDREC) was established in early 2008 following a $1.5million funding grant to the Menzies Research Institute from the JO & JR Wicking Trust. This grant was matched with $1million additional funding from the University of Tasmania (including the School of Nursing and the Menzies Research Institute) as well as the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services.

This unique, integrated Centre spans health services, clinical and biomedical research, education and workforce capacity and aims to confront the leading issues related to the increasing numbers of people with dementia. The Centre opened in June 2008.
