Help is needed to find out more about Cerebral Palsy
The Tasmanian Cerebral Palsy Register (TCPR) is a database of information about people with cerebral palsy (CP) who live in Tasmania.
The TCPR - an important source of information:
- Investigating the causes of cerebral palsy
- Finding ways to prevent and manage cerebral palsy
- Assisting in the planning of services.
The Register is important in enabling us to know how many people are living in Tasmania with CP, in which areas they live, and whether there are any changing trends in the incidence or severity of CP. The Register also aims to facilitate research into the causes, prevention and treatment of CP.
The Register is administered by the Menzies Research Institute at the University of Tasmania under contract with Cerebral Palsy Tasmania and in collaboration with Statewide Paediatric Services. It is funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund.
The goal of the TCPR is to have all Tasmanian children diagnosed with CP on the Register. Adults with CP may also be included on the Register if they wish.
Inclusion on the TCPR is entirely voluntary and every person is free to provide as much or as little information as they choose. However, the more complete the information we have, the more useful the Register will be in helping us to understand CP.
Only TCPR staff will have access to information that can identify participants as individuals. Any information provided to people outside the TCPR will have names and other identifying details removed.
CP Registers from all over Australia will contribute information to an Australian CP Register which will be the largest CP Register in the world and will enable more extensive research into causes and trends.
Your Contribution is important!
