Menzies MS MOOC Set To Launch

At Menzies we strive to transform the experience of people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  The MS Flagship Program was established in 2017 with the aim of bringing together our significant research capacity and leaders in the field to increase the scope and impact of our work.

A substantial part of this mission involves the translation of our research to help educate the community on all aspects of MS.  This includes the risk factors, symptom management and care for those living with MS.  With this in mind, we have partnered with Multiple Sclerosis Limited to develop a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which is a free educative resource tool.

The ‘Understanding MS’ MOOC is designed for anyone with a connection to the disease – from people living with MS and their carers, to GPs, allied healthcare professionals and NDIS planners, and anyone who wants to learn more about MS.

Educational videos of academics and health professionals deliver evidence-based information on the disease risk factors, progression and management, while interviews with people living with MS provide personal perspectives on diagnosis, symptoms and symptom management.

The course has six modules, which are released weekly and contain content addressing the areas of:

  • Biology and Pathology
  • Diagnosis and Symptoms
  • Demographics and Introduction to Risk
  • Risk Factors
  • Disease Management and Support Strategies
  • Living with MS

Each module ends with a short quiz to enable you to gauge how much you have learned, and on completion of the course you will be provided with a certificate of achievement.
