Description

2017 Menzies Debate
Heart disease? We don’t need to worry about that any more.

About the event

We have had 50 years of progress in understanding, preventing and treating heart disease. Death rates have fallen dramatically and some risk factors have improved. So does that mean we don’t have to worry about heart disease any more?

That is the question that we pose in this year’s Menzies Debate.  The reality of course is that there is no simple story on heart disease, and that’s why this is a great topic to debate. We are now seeing an increase in the numbers of people at risk through obesity and type-2 diabetes and, progress or not, heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. So save the date for the Menzies Debate and come along and hear both sides of the story. We have assembled an entertaining line-up of experts, and Bernie Hobbs from ABC Science will be back as our guest moderator.
