Description | Click here to register for this free event Research into the genetics of eye disease is moving rapidly and new ways of managing and treating these diseases are on the way. Researchers at Menzies are working with large international consortia who are making regular breakthroughs, both in the identification of genes connected to certain blinding diseases and in the trialling of new therapies. Associate Professor Kathryn Burdon is working on understanding the role that genes play in the development of three eye diseases in particular - glaucoma, keratoconus and diabetic retinopathy. Associate Professor Alex Hewitt is using stem cells derived from patients with and without glaucoma to identify new therapeutic targets for this common disease. In this talk Associate Professors Burdon and Hewitt will explain what we know so far about the genetics of common eye disease and where future research could take this field. Where: University of Tasmania Medical Science Precinct, When: 6pm-7pm on October 11, 2016 Tea and coffee from 5.30pm. |
