The symposium will bring together the past, the present and the future, with talks from prominent researchers, politicians and supporters.

This important event will showcase Menzies' 21 years of research excellence and celebrate our future as we enter into a new and exciting era in medical research.

Speakers for the 21st celebrations include: Sir Guy Green who will reflect on Menzies formation and early years; Professor Simon Foote reviewing Menzies expansion and education opportunities; and Tasmanian Premier, David Bartlett, looking to Menzies future and its status as a Tasmanian Icon.

Menzies' Director, Professor Simon Foote is very proud of Menzies achievements, is confident in the institute's future.

"The symposium is an opportunity for former Menzies' staff, students and volunteers, to meet with today's researchers, supporters and workforce, to celebrate the myriad past successes and to look with pride to Menzies bright future," said Professor Foote. "It is fitting that this new start will be held on our new premises."

The 21st symposium is the first official event to be held in Medical Science 1, the new home of the Menzies Research Institute and the University of Tasmania's, Faculty of Health Science.

University of Tasmania Vice Chancellor, Professor Daryl Le Grew, is excited about Menzies' future and the ongoing collaboration with the medical science faculties.

"Bringing together so many talented scientists in Hobart to celebrate Menzies' success is an opportunity not to be missed."

The symposium will attract approximately 120 attendees - from past and present staff and students, to corporate and philanthropic supporters.
