Menzies Research Institute (Menzies) is undergoing a Review and is consequently calling for submissions from interested parties to comment on the following Terms of Reference.

Terms of Reference:

 

To review the past performance and future plans of Menzies Research Institute, to ensure the Institute is competing at an appropriate national level, properly exploiting its advantages and suitably positioning itself to make the most of future opportunities.

1.         Evaluate the scientific performance of Menzies over the past five years (2005 - 2009), concentrating especially on the past three years since the completion of the Growth Program. Evaluate the future directions of the research. Comment on its scientific vision, thematic composition and leadership. Benchmark the performance of Menzies at a national level.

2.         Comment on the extent and quality of the research training provided by the Institute, including recruitment, supervision, completion and standing of graduates.

3.         Evaluate the translational achievements of the Institute. Provide advice and feedback on the quality of translational outcomes from clinical and population health initiatives. Provide feedback and suggestion on the commercialisation of basic science programs.

4.         Provide assessment of the support and services provided by both Menzies and UTAS to the research, training and translational activities of the Institute.

Submissions are sought from the University community, members of the public and specific interest groups. Submissions will become part of the documentation for the Review and may be published, unless requested in writing that they be kept confidential to the Review Panel. The Review Panel is comprised of national and international research scientists of high standing.
